How to Wash & Care for Your Boots and Saddle Pads
Our products are designed to work hard, wash well and last. A little care goes a long way towards maintaining the performance of the fabrics and hook-and-loop fastenings, while keeping everything comfortable against your horse or pony’s skin.
Machine Washing
We recommend machine washing your boots and saddle pads no more than once a month.
Before washing boots, fasten all hook-and-loop closures carefully and evenly, ensuring that none of the hook material is left exposed. This prevents fluff, fibres and other debris from becoming attached to the hook-and-loop and helps maintain its effectiveness.
For additional protection, we recommend placing boots inside a mesh wash bag before putting them into the washing machine. This helps prevent lint, hair and other debris from the machine attaching to the fabric or fastenings. Our mesh wash bags are available to purchase on our website.
Wash on a cool, gentle cycle at 30°C or below.
Use only a minimal amount of mild laundry detergent. Alternatively, bicarbonate of soda can be used. Keeping detergent to a minimum helps protect the technical fabrics and can extend the life of your products.
Please do not use fabric conditioner. Fabric conditioners can leave a coating on technical fabrics and hook-and-loop fastenings, which may affect their condition, performance and effectiveness. This residue is also something we prefer to avoid having directly against your horse or pony’s skin.
Everyday Cleaning
There’s no need to put your products through the washing machine after every use. Between machine washes, we recommend simply rinsing them thoroughly with cold water.
For stubborn mud, dirt and grime, use a hose and partially cover the end with your finger to increase the water pressure. Direct the water through the material to help flush dirt and debris from the fibres.
Once clean, hang the products so that air can circulate freely around them and allow them to dry naturally.
Drying
In warm, dry and well-ventilated conditions, our products can dry within around an hour.
In cooler conditions, they should normally be dry by the following day, provided they are hung correctly with plenty of airflow.
If the weather is cold, damp or otherwise unsuitable for drying outside, bring your products into a warm, dry and well-ventilated environment to finish drying.
Regular rinsing, careful washing and thorough drying will help maintain the condition, comfort and performance of your boots and saddle pads for as long as possible.
